General Questions:

Refund Policy

Refund Policy: NO REFUNDS unless you have been double charged or accidentally signed up more than once.

Standard race policy states that, when emergency conditions such as weather, threats of terrorism or medical emergencies force cancellation of an event, refunds cannot be provided since moneys have been spent in preparation for Race Day.

What do I get for my entry fee?

All participants in the Kona Run 8K and 5K events receive a Shirt, and the post-race food including a beer or pop.  All 8K and 5K finishers receive a medal. Age group awards are presented for the 8K and 5K events for males and females in the top three places in the age groups 10-14 years, 15-19 years, 20-24 years, 25-29 years, 30-34 years, 35-39 years, 40-44 years, 45-49 years, 50-54 years, 55-59 years, 60-64 years, 65-69 years, 70-74 years and 75+ years.

Drinks: Beer or Pop. (In addition to bottled water on the course) There will be one drink ticket on your race bib. You are required to be at least 21 years of age and have your driver license ID & race bib ready to enter our secured beer area.

What are the age limits for the races?

There are no age limits. We encourage participants of all ages to join us.

Is the race events walker friendly?

Yes, we will have plenty of participants that will walk. If you plan to walk the race, we do require that you line up at the back of the race corral so as not to impede the faster runners.

Are there refunds if cannot attend? Can someone else run with my bib no?

NO REFUNDS; ONLY TRANSFERS ALLOWED TO ANOTHER PERSON BEFORE OUR ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSES!

Are baby joggers or strollers or pet dogs allowed during the race?

If you choose to run with a baby jogger or a pet dog, you must seed yourself in the back of all runners. It is your responsibility to make sure the baby jogger or pet dog does not impede other runners as well as you must take extra precaution as to your safety, your child’s safety and the safety of the runners around you. We reserve the right to pull any person from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves.  All dogs MUST be kept on a SHORT leash.

Are headphones (iPods, mp3 players, etc) allowed during the race?

Headphones are allowed for any runner however, we do recommend that runners use extreme precaution when using headphones during the race event for safety reasons.

When is the last day to register?

The last day to register “online” for the run at Maybury Park is Thursday, August 29th by 11:00 pm EST.

The last day to register “online” for the Virtual Run is Thursday, August 22nd by 11:00 pm EST.

You must pick up your race packet before the event. We will not mail race packets.

Where can I park?

At Maybury State Park.  COME EARLY TO AVOID THE WAIT!

A parking/MI Recreation Passport is required for this event!  The Recreation Passport is your ticket to Michigan’s state parks and outdoor adventures!

  • The booth at the Park Entrance will be staffed. Please have cash ready if you do not have a Recreation Passport on your vehicle.
  • Michigan Residents: If you have not purchased the Recreation Passport when you renewed your plates, you can purchase a Recreation Passport at the booth for $16.
  • Out-of-State Visitors: You will be required to pay the daily permit fee of $9 when enter the park. Please have cash ready. Or, you may purchase an Annual Permit for $32.00.

Can someone else pick up my packet for me?

Yes.

Race Information:

How does the virtual run work?

NEW VIRTUAL RUN OPTIONS FOR 2020!  Avoid crowds and social gatherings!

~ Run or Walk where you wish on marked courses or your own course.
~ Cool Shirts, medals and other swag to be mailed to all virtual participants the week before the race date.

Can I register on race day?

At the Kona Race Registration Tent in Mulberry State Park

Race day morning, August 29th, from 3:00 PM to 5:15 PM. CASH OR CHECK ONLY.  The pricing will be as follows:

8K Run – $47
5K Run/Walk – $45

Do you accept credit cards for registration race day?

No, cash or check only.

Will there be water stations?

Yes, there will be water stations about every 1.5 miles in the 8k, and at the halfway point of the 5k event. Also water is provided at the start & finish areas.

Will there be medical aid stations?

The Medical Aid station is located at start/finish line area and course marshals on all three courses have two-way radios for contact with public safety officials.

Will there be bathrooms/portable toilets available?

Portable toilets will be located at the start/finish line only.

Where can we park for the event and are there shuttle buses?

SHUTTLE BUS INFORMATION is still to be determined.

Where are start/finish lines and the event start times?

THE FINISH LINE SHUTS DOWN AT 6:30 P.M.  Start and Finish lines are in Maybury Park by the Kona Race Tent. The Kona Run 8K is at 5:00 pm and the 5K at 5:15 pm.

What times do the courses close?

B-Tag chip timing?

Runners will need to wear Race Bib on their front – shirt/ jacket/ pants – to be scored in the event (ChronoTrack B-tag is on the bib).

Awards:

Age Group Awards?

Age group awards are presented for the 8K and 5K events for males and females in the top three places in the age groups 10-14 years, 15-19 years, 20-24 years, 25-29 years, 30-34 years, 35-39 years, 40-44 years, 45-49 years, 50-54 years, 55-59 years, 60-64 years, 65-69 years, 70-74 years and 75+ years.  Awards be given out at the Awards tent in Maybury State Park at 6:15 PM. If you think you have won an award, please check at the Awards tent. If you are unable to wait for the official results and pick up your award on race day, you may have a friend pick it up or pay to have it shipped.
